  7.     Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the
  8. powerful Shi`ite literary critic who upheld a death sentence
  9. against Salman Rushdie for The Satanic Verses, wants to be a
  10. best-selling author himself. Rafsanjani's co-author is offering
  11. the 400-page manuscript for Our Revolution: The Ideology Behind
  12. the Movement to U.S. publishing houses. Excerpts from the work
  13. show that the Ayatullah Khomeini's political heir still has a
  14. jaundiced view of the Great Satan. "Our real desire, from the
  15. beginning, was to humiliate the United States throughout the
  16. world," writes Rafsanjani. Moreover, Westerners "are members of
  17. the school of pleasure-seeking, lasciviousness, enjoyment and
  18. entertainment . . . ((caught in)) the fetid, slimy bed of lust
  19. and pleasure." Showing some worldliness himself, Rafsanjani is
  20. offering to provide rare family snapshots and even "unpublished"
  21. photographs of the American hostages held for 444 days in Iran
  22. to anyone who snaps up his book.
